The information systems major prepares students in computer science and business for the rapid advances in technology and its use in business settings.

Information systems is an interdisciplinary program between computer science and business focusing on the commercial aspects of computing 鈥 how computer systems are designed, built and run in the business world, also referred to as 鈥渢echnology-enabled business development.鈥

Wittenberg鈥檚 program helps prepare students to meet the increasing demand in the marketplace for managers who can lead teams of technical programmers and engineers. The information systems major requires courses in business, computer science and statistics, as well as a capstone internship experience in which students apply their business and computer skills in the real world and gain firsthand knowledge of the problems raised in the field. Wittenberg鈥檚 location offers a variety of internship opportunities in the Springfield and Dayton areas.

The rapid growth rate of information systems manager jobs translates into excellent job prospects for graduates of Wittenberg鈥檚 program, which aims to equip students with the programming abilities, business acumen, and oral and written communication skills required for positions such as technical projects manager, information technology vendor manager, systems or business analyst, or information technology finance manager.

Offered in conjunction with the department of business, the information systems program is housed in the department of mathematics and computer science, whose faculty provide academic advising to students. The business department coordinates the capstone internship course.
